At Soapra, we believe everyday self‑care should feel beautiful, intentional, and connected to nature.
What began as a small passion for crafting handmade soap in NZ has grown into a thoughtful collection of natural,
skin‑loving products made slowly and intentionally in small batches. Each bar is poured, cut, and cured by hand — the true mark of artisanal soap making.
My Story
I’m Wilma, a mother of three and the hands behind Soapra. My journey into soapmaking began in early 2023 after a long period of illness made it impossible to continue the heavy lifting required in our family’s animal‑feed business. I knew I needed a new path — something creative, gentle, and meaningful.
The spark arrived unexpectedly. One day at work, my (now) daughter‑in‑law mentioned she wanted to make soap with a group of girls. In that moment, something clicked. As a child, my mother once gave me a soap‑making kit, and although life carried me elsewhere, that early fascination had never fully disappeared.
I started researching, and suddenly a whole world opened up. Soapmaking wasn’t just a craft — it was chemistry, artistry, scent blending, herbal knowledge, colour, design, and endless creativity. I even found an old soapmaking book tucked between my craft books, bought another one, and quickly realised I was completely captivated.
Soap became the perfect blend of everything I love: creativity, usefulness, beauty, and hands‑on craft. As a semi‑artist who paints in oils, I wanted my soaps to be bright, beautiful, and full of personality. And with my background as a herbalist, it felt natural to focus on essential oils, botanicals, and skin‑nourishing ingredients.
From the beginning, my goal was simple: to create soaps that are fun, colourful, and artistic — but also nourishing, eco‑friendly, and made with intention. Soapra grew from that desire to heal, to create, and to share something meaningful with others.
